"Mon 07","There is a wealth of talent in HNHS and many members do things that are not easy to put into a full lecture. The idea of this one is to report what has been in a square metre, either as a one off or at intervals throughout the year. The \"square metre\" can be stretched somewhat and could be anything - a tree, pond, patch of garden, riverbank etc and could be anywhere in the world. \"What's been in my patch?\" is intended to be a series of mini presentations to report what has been seen. There could be some surprises - so another \"mustn't miss\" evening.
(Chairman Roger Patterson)
","Lecture",
"Mon 14","The spectacular island of Spitsbergen lies a mere 600 miles from the North Pole. This dramatic land of mountains, glaciers and tundra is gripped by ice for nearly eight months of the year and darkness for over four. During the brief Arctic summer, however, the cold loosens its grip, the ice recedes and Spitsbergen is bathed in perpetual daylight. The tundra becomes awash with colourful flowers and millions of seabirds arrive to breed. Walrus laze on ice floes, cetaceans move in to feed on the blooms of plankton and Polar Bears hunt across a crazy-paving of pack-ice that stretches to the horizon. PAUL STANBURY will describe these wonders in his lecture \"Spitsbergen - Realm of the Polar Bear\".
(Chairman Roger Mason)
","Lecture",
