"Thu 02","It's our turn this year to host the annual walk with East Grinstead Natural History Society and we'll meet up beside the Black Horse pub in Nuthurst to try a different route from our walk last December. Take the A281 south out of Horsham and in Monk's Gate turn right into Nuthurst Road. Follow this to Nuthurst, about a mile away. The pub is on the left and there's parking along the church on the right.
Map: Explorer 134 192 262
","Nuthurst with East Grinstead Nat. His.",
"Thu 09","We haven't been near Shipley mill for a while so let's hope for a fine evening for this return visit Take the A24 south of Horsham and at the cross roads with the A272 turn right and follow the road to the cross road to Shipley. You turn left off the A272 onto Pound Lane and then right onto Red Lane and on to Shipley. There's parking near the church or along the road to the mill.
Map: Explorer 134 144 218
","Tom and Shipley",
"Thu 16","We made a day time visit here last summer so it will be interesting to see what's changed on this evening stroll. Andrew Guest will lead us in his knowledgeable way. We meet at the car park in the country park Take the A 264 from Horsham towards Crawley and go round the roundabout after the one with the right hand turn to the A23, and come back towards Horsham. The country park is sign posted on the left.
Map: Explorer 134 237 347
","Andrew and Buchan Park",
"Thu 23","The Masons are always good for an entertaining walk -- we even get lost on occasions, but not for long. We'll keep a lookout for both flowers and birds as we did on this trip last year. Take the A281 out of Horsham towards Guildford and turn left onto the Loxwood road in Buck's Green. Less than a mile along there is a small lay-by on the right where we park.
Map: Explorer 134 056 318
","Peggy, Roger and Pephurst Wood",
"Thu 30","We'll meet near the Downs' Link for what promises to be a pleasant evening walk under the excellent leadership of Janet Owen. Take the A 281 to Henfield where you turn right into Church street which becomes Upper Station Rd. There's a car park on the right where the road crosses the old railway line.
Map: Explorer 122 206 162
","Janet and Henfield",

"Thu 06","We meet at the same place as the May walk but head off in a different direction to explore more of the area near to home. Leave Horsham by the A281 going south and turn off onto Doomsday Lane to turn right onto the Hammerpond Road towards Handcross. After the road passes the first hammer pond beyond Roosthole, Grouse Road is on the left. Turn up here and park along the verge of Grouse Road about half a mile along; there's a public footpath sign and reasonable parking on either side of the road.
Map: Explorer 134 220 295
","David and the Forest",
"Thu 13","We'll stroll along the canal here, a favourite walk for many of us, led by Gary Cooper this time. Take the A281 out of Horsham towards Guildford and in Buck's Green take the left turn to Loxwood. At the junction in Loxwood, turn left and park on the left in the car park behind the Onslow Arms pub.
Map: Explorer 134 041 311
","Gary at Loxwood",

He is a Senior Lecturer in evolutionary biology at the University of Sussex. and his research projects are all centred on birds. Thanks to the generosity of the estate of the late Grace Markwell, he is able to talk to us this evening without charging a fee. IAN RUMLEY-DAWSON is a freelance photographer and course leader and the title of his lecture is \"Wildlife of the Seychelles\". "Month","March","N",
"Mon 07","There is a wealth of talent in HNHS and many members do things that are not easy to put into a full lecture. The idea of this one is to report what has been in a square metre, either as a one off or at intervals throughout the year. The \"square metre\" can be stretched somewhat and could be anything - a tree, pond, patch of garden, riverbank etc and could be anywhere in the world. \"What's been in my patch?\" is intended to be a series of mini presentations to report what has been seen. There could be some surprises - so another \"mustn't miss\" evening.
(Chairman Roger Patterson)
","Lecture",
"Mon 14","The spectacular island of Spitsbergen lies a mere 600 miles from the North Pole. This dramatic land of mountains, glaciers and tundra is gripped by ice for nearly eight months of the year and darkness for over four. During the brief Arctic summer, however, the cold loosens its grip, the ice recedes and Spitsbergen is bathed in perpetual daylight. The tundra becomes awash with colourful flowers and millions of seabirds arrive to breed. Walrus laze on ice floes, cetaceans move in to feed on the blooms of plankton and Polar Bears hunt across a crazy-paving of pack-ice that stretches to the horizon. PAUL STANBURY will describe these wonders in his lecture \"Spitsbergen - Realm of the Polar Bear\".
(Chairman Roger Mason)
","Lecture",
"Mon 21","\"Wild Life in Fresh and Sea Water\" is the title of the last lecture of the winter programme, and is given by HNHS member NICK SEXTON. Nick meticulously prepares his lectures and this is sure to be an interesting end to our season.
(Chairman Oliver Farley)","Lecture"
