Events

We have a wide variety of events that cover all aspects of natural history. These include winter lectures, field trips, and courses. Please contact the relevant organiser for more information.

We also run ad hoc "taster" events where experienced and knowledgeable members give tuition to people who would like to know more about the wildlife in their own locality. Email for details

Field Meetings

These are researched and arranged to cover a wide variety of habitats. We rarely have a meeting where we don't see something that is rare or in the "wrong" place. In some years we have themes we focus on, but as we are a general interest society we have people who are interested and have knowledge in a number of subjects whether it is birds, plants, insects, trees, etc.

We are lucky in having such a wide variety of habitats within easy reach, with different soil types such as clay, greensand, chalk and beach within an hour or so's drive for most of us. Occasionally sites of interest are further afield than we normally travel, so we try to share cars where possible.

All meetings start promptly at 10.30a.m., and attendees are advised to wear stout footwear and to bring a packed lunch and drink.

Contact Roger Mason 01403 822000 for further details.

Special Events - Throughout the summer we intend to run several events where the general public will have some involvement. They will be posted on this website and advertised locally.

Evening Walks
The Summer evening walks usually start at 7.00 (but please check time) and are fairly local to Horsham. They will normally last about 2 - 2½ hours and will not be more than 3 miles - often less if there is lots to see. Sometimes parking may be limited so please try to share transport. When we have specified that dogs are allowed, they should be well behaved and should be kept on leads if likely to disturb wildlife or other members.

For more information please email Josie Allen on josephinecallen@btinternet.com

Birds Field Trips (S.O.S. Outings)
HNHS have an agreement with Sussex Ornithological Society where they welcome our members on their Field Trips. Only those in our area are listed. For joining instructions and a full S.O.S. listing please click on the button on the Related Links page.
For enquiries please call Oliver Farley on 01403 241 458
